Touji-sai at Issan Shrine
On the winter solstice, which is usually December 21st or 22nd depending on the year, a fire-walking ritual is practiced at Issan Jinja. A modest ceremony is held inside the shrine building from 2pm, and the fire walking ritual starts from 30 to 40 minutes after that.
The yuzu is a citrus fruit which is very sour and used like a lemon in the Japanese cuisine. It is said that if you take a bath floating yuzu on the winter solstice, you do not catch cold.
