Karasumori ShrineKarasumori Jinja, which is said to have already existed in 940 according to legend, is a Shinto shrine located two minutes west of JR Yamanote Line Shimbashi Station.
This shrine holds the Reitaisai (grand festival) in early May in even-nubmered years.

Reitaisai at Karasumori Shrine

Karasumori Shrine holds the Reitaisai (annual grand festival) in early May. In the even-numbered years, the Reitaisai is actually held from May 4 through 6, though May 4th and 6th is mainly for ritual. But on May 5th, mikoshi procession is held around the west side of the station.

Mikoshi Procession

As aforementioned, this mikoshi (portable shrine) procession is held on May 5th of even-numbered years. On this day, a large mikoshi parades around the west side of JR Shimbashi Station and Toranomon area, the area the shrine divinity protects, from around noon.
