Asakusa Demonstration of Japanese Traditional Martial ArtsThe Asakusa Demonstration of Japanese Traditional Martial Arts is an event which is held on the same day the Asakusa Yabusame and the Asakusa Kusajishi, Japanese traditional archery ceremonies, are held in Sumida Park in the Asakusa district.

Asakusa Demonstration of Japanese Traditional Martial Arts

Asakusa Demonstration of Japanese Traditional Martial Arts (浅草日本古武道大会) is held at a room in the Taito Riverside Sports Center, which is located in Sumida Park along the Sumida River. The facility is adjoining the venue of the Asakusa Kusajishi. Thirty to forty traditional martial arts schools demonstrate their skills annually in this event, and people can freely see it. Unlike modern martial arts like Judo, Kendo and Karate, which were formed as sports for the public in the modern era, the martial arts schools demonstrated here are ones existing from the feudal times, being techniques for warriors, namely samurai, to kill or neutralize enemies in those days.
