Ikegami Honmonji is a major Nichiren Buddhist temple. Many of its buildings were burned down during WWII and were reconstructed with concrete after the war but some of the old peripheral buildings remain. Its Japanese stroll garden is on public display once a year for walk-through around September. On the evening of Oct 12, there will be a mando procession.

Hongyoji is the largest subsidiary temple of Ikegami Honmonji.

Ikegami Baien is a Japanese garden with Japanese apricots and azaleas.

Rokugo Jinja is a Shinto shrine with well-maintained precincts. It is located near the border (the Tama-gawa River) with Kawasaki City. An archery ritual is held in January and the annual grand festival is held in early June.

Anamori Inari Jinja is a Shinto shrine near Haneda Airport.

Komyoji is a Jodo Buddhist temple with a modern Japanese garden.

Meguro Fudoson, formally Ryusenji, is a relatively large Tendai Buddhist temple.

Setagaya Kannnonji is a new temple established in 1951 but its buildings were built before that elsewhere and relocated here.

Yogyokuin is a Tendai Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts. Placed in Nyoraido (the red building) are five large statues of Buddha.

Joshinji, often called Kuhonbutsu, is a relatively large Jodo Buddhist temple.

Gotoh museum, established in 1960, exhibits the art collection of former Tokyu Railway chairman Goto Keita. Its grounds used to be part of his residence and though the museum building itself is a newly erected one, his Japanese garden still remains.

Gotokuji is a relatively large Soto Zen temple.

Setagaya Daikan Yashiki was the residence and office of the local official who was in charge of this area in the Edo era.

Shoin Jinja is a Shinto shrine established in 1882 to honor philosopher and educator Yoshida Shoin beside his grave. Though he himself was executed, after his death his students became a major force in accomplishing the Meiji Restoration.

Japan Folk Craft Museum is a museum focusing on folk crafts. Its main building was constructed in 1936. Its west annex was built in 1935 as the residence of founder and philosopher Yanagi Soetsu (opens on the 2nd & 3rd Wed & Sat every month).

Komaba Park used to be the residence of a former domain lord family. There remain a Western-style and a Japanese-style house, built in 1929 and 1930 respectively.

Roka Koshun'en, a farmhouse-like site constructed in the Meiji period, was the residence of novelist Tokutomi Roka.

Several farm houses from the Edo period are relocated to this open-air museum.

This site was the residence and studio of a Nihonga painter Kawabata Ryushi. It stands across the street from the Ryushi Memorial Museum displaying his works, and when the museum is closed the garden will also be closed. Guided tours are conducted only in Japanese language.

Yutenji is a Jodo Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts. A relatively large commemorial service for firefighters is held annually on April 29.

En'yuji is a Tendai Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts. Its Shakado, created in the 14th century, is the oldest surviving building within the 23 wards of Tokyo.

Yakumo Hikawa Jinja is a Shinto shrine with well-maintained precincts. Ema pictures are also on display on the grounds.

Manpukuji is a Soto Zen temple with well-maintained precincts.

Shinagawa Jinja is a relatively known Shinto shrine. If you are planning to board Keikyu Line and have time, you might as well drop by since it's close to the station.

Tenmyokokuji Temple is a Nichiren Buddhist temple located in the former Shinagawa post station district. There's a tea garden as well.

Seikoin Temple is a Rinzai Zen temple with graveyards of two feudal lord clans.

Honkoji Temple is a Nichiren Buddhist temple with a three-story pagoda and a tahoto-style pagoda, both of which are new and not so large but made of wood.

Kaiunji is a Soto Zen temple with well-maintained precincts.

Kishin'en is a small Japanese stroll garden located in Futagotamagawa Park constructed in 2013.

Asagaya Shinmeigu is a beautiful Shinto shrine with well-maintained precincts.

There are a number of neat temples between JR Chuo Line Koenji Station and Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shin-Koenji Station.

Mabashi Inari Jinja is a Shinto shrine with well-maintained precincts.

Igusa Hachimangu is a large Shinto shrine on the western outskirts of Tokyo.

Kansenji is a Soto Zen temple with beautiful pricencts.

Hosenji is a Shingon Buddhist temple with a three-storied pagoda. There's also a stone garden. On Setsubun Day (Feb 3), a ceremony called Setsubun-e is held, and there will be a procession of people disguised as monk warriors.

Tetsugakudo Park is a municipal park founded by a philosopher. Several small but unusual constructions stand here.

Nakano History Museum focuses the history and folk custom of Nakano City. Taking photos is allowed.

Myohoji is a relatively large Nichren Buddhist temple with a complex which survived WWII.

Omiya Hachimangu is a relatively large Shinto shrine. You can also see many mikoshi being displayed here. On Jan 2, archery rituals are held here.

Aizen'in is a Shingon Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts.

Nanzoin is a Shingon Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts.

Chomeiji is a relatively large Shingon Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts. Many stone pagodas and statues are placed in the precincts.

There are several well-maintained temples and shrines (Sanpoji, Dojiji, etc.) and a museum around Sanpoji Pond in Shakujii Park.

Myofukuji is a middle-sized Nichiren Buddhist temple with well-maintained precincts.

Ogikubo Hachiman Jinja is a Shinto shrine with well-maintained grounds.
