Hoshi-matsuri at Tajima Ontake ShrineTajima Ontake Shrine (田島御嶽神社), a Shinto shrine which was found in 1295, is a 7-minute walk to the east from JR Musashino Line Nishi-urawa Station. This railway station is a 47-minute ride from JR Tokyo station if you use the Keihin Tohoku Line from Tokyo Station and transfer to the Musashino Line at Minami Urawa Station.
At this shrine, a fire walking ritual is conducted annually on Decmber 19.

Hoshi-matsuri at Tajima Ontake Jinja

At the Hoshi-matsuri (星祭り), formally Chinka Hoshi-matsuri Taisai (鎮火星祭大祭), held at Tajima Ontake Shrine on December 19 regardless of what day of week it is, fire walking is practiced from around 2:30pm.
Basically, a Hoshi-matsuri is a ceremony to worship certain stars practiced widely in esoteric Buddhism. Here, a fire walking ritual is conducted to purify the spiritual pollutant accumulated in the year by burning it and wish for prosperous next year.
